Art

I began painting while quite young in order to express the fear and confusion I felt growing up in an abusive and dysfunctional family.
My beginnings were organic and from my emotional being. Since then I have studied at The Boston Museum School, Rhode Island School of Design and Massachusetts College of Art.

My paintings also depict my deep connection with nature and my larger view of the world outside of the human ego: the earth, the moon, the universe and the macrocosm of life reflected through the microcosm of man’s journey toward wholeness. From the single cell to the sun itself, we live interdependent within the Unified Field.

Toward Unity Consciousness: Painting My Way Through Posttraumatic Stress Disorder; twenty year study in painting sponsored by Massachusetts Centers, Bedford, Massachusetts. Presented in segments:

   1999- Present    Inner World/Outer World

1994-1999   Inner Progressions:  How I View My World

1994     Landscape As Metaphor - Works on paper, Brittany,                             France

   1993      Pilgrim, Goddess, Earth Series

1992      Homage to Mother Earth - handmade paper and                                   found objects.
Part of the permanent collection of Bentley College,                             Waltham, Mass.

1991      Year-Long Study in handmade papermaking:  The                                 Hidden Way.

1989     Caribbean Series:  Moving Into Light.

1985-2005   Finding My Way Through Paint, One Artists                                         Journey. Integrating trauma through painting using                              diverse mediums. During this time I worked                                          simultaneously for Mass. Centers Inc. as a landscape                              architect creating gardens and maintaining three
acres of planted grounds surrounding nine                                            apartment buildings in Lincoln, Mass. There I                                        created three dimensionally the paintings I                                            envisioned in my mind. My assistant and partner                                    had twenty years experience in landscaping.

This period lead me to my graduate work and                                       culminated in a show at Bentley College, Waltham,                               Mass. They now own more than twenty of my                                       paintings, most of which hang in their new library.
From there I gathered a following of clients and                                   now continue to paint with a greater sense of self                                   and external ackknowledgement.

June 1994   Rhode Island School of Design, Summer Painting                                Intensive, Brittany, France
Pieces from this series are part of the permanent                                    collection at Bentley, College.

June 1995         Summer Intensive at Rhode Island School of Design                            in Watercolor Painting

I  recently earned a Masters Degree in Mind/Body Psycotherapy through the Independent Studies Program at Leslie University in Cambridge, Massachusetts culminating with a research paper on Alternative Healing Modalities for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.

The studies chosen throughout my life have all been directed toward exploring creative ways of working with and understanding  the several bodies of man: mental, emotional, spiritual and physical.  With this intent I began with literature and languages at Bennington College, in Bennington, Vermont. The school’s philosophy allows each student to shape her own educational direction and career goals.  This has always been my philosophy as well.  Thus, I spent time away from Bennington in order to study the literature, culture, and languages of  France, Spain, and Italy. At Middlebury College Summer School I studied Advanced French and Spanish. I attended American Institute for Foreign Studies in France, Spain, and Italy.  I took Spanish Literature in Madrid with the Vassar Wesleyan Program and at Wellesley College. I am fluent in four languages and continue to use them to communicate and learn from other cultures. I recently returned from a three month trip to Central America, volunteering my skills in language teaching, working with children, healing and offering yoga for all levels of health.

For my BA thesis at Bennington, I wrote a chapbook of poems including a section translating some of the work of Argentine poet Alfonsina Storni. My mentor, Mary Reufle, was and continues to be a great poetic inspiration.

Shortly after the death of my mother, I went to Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health.  I rented a room nearby and studied there intensively for a year,  healing my own wounds and learning how to work with the trauma and suffering of others. I completed my yoga teacher certification with Don and Amba Stapleton in Interdisciplinary and Kripalu Yoga at their retreat, The Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. Don is a CEO at Kripalu and developed much of their original yoga teacher training program. I also became a Reiki Master and a Certified Kripalu Massage Practitioner.  I have been practicing yogic philosophy and Transcendental Meditation since the age of fourteen.
